Tech support scams
Fake support that escalates into remote control, including bank and company impersonation.
The FBI’s 2025 Internet Crime Report recorded 47,794 tech and customer-support complaints and about $2.13 billion in reported losses. The pitch is familiar: a warning that the computer is infected, a refund is stuck, or an account is under attack. The goal is often a remote session, then a payment or a transfer.
Hang up. Do not install what the caller names. If they claim to be your bank, call the number on the back of your card or on the bank’s own site.
Companies do not need you to install a surprise remote tool to “fix” a computer they have never seen. A free check is for the PC. Guardian is for the next call.
